Wedding Insurance

It was on my wedding checklist but I wanted to ignore it.

  • Item #29: Look into wedding insurance.

Now why would I want to do that?! Insurance protect you against disasters. I do not even want to write the word "disaster" and "wedding" in the same sentence! Instead of just checking it of my list, I decided this was a matter for my fiance to research.

Denton did a bit of research and found this great article. Written by the fabulous Suze Orman, the article discusses that there are three types of wedding related insurance:

  1. Ring Insurance -- if something happens to your precious bauble, you are covered. Considering that my future mother-in-law is on her third wedding ring, this is a no-brainer for us.

  2. Liability Insurance -- if a guest sues us, we're covered! Like me, you are probably not too concerned about this unexpected event! However, many venues require liability insurance. It can be added as part of your homeowner's insurance.

  3. Wedding Day Insurance -- if your photographer jumps ship, your grandmother gets seriously ill, or if a hurricane has just demolished your venue, you can reschedule your wedding for no additional cost.

For a wedding of our size, it is going to cost about $500. While I don't really want to add another item to our ever expanding budget, we've decided that wedding insurance is worth it for our piece of mind.

What do you think?

Wedding Insurance is extremely popular, especially Great Britain, but growing slowly in acceptance here in the USA. It is cheap peace of mind, considering the average wedding costs $27,000! Check out: www.ChicagoWeddingInsurance.com for details.
