DIY: Colts Letters

While I know that those "I Do" letters were all the rage a few years ago, I wasn't a fan of the trend.  Instead, I bought some wooden letters to get the point across for our Groom's Cake table. I bought a can of primer and a can of spray paint.  Denton sprayed the letters during commercials while watching some TV.

Traditionally, the Groom's cake is supposed to be something all about the groom.  It isn't supposed to match the look or feel of the wedding.  (Trust me, it did not!)

Buying and spray painting letters were the easiest DIY project we did.

Color Me Pretty

Pantone is the world-renowned authority on color. For more than 40 years, Pantone has been inspiring design professionals with products, services and leading technology for the colorful exploration and expression of creativity.

Pantone has this amazing tool called myColor my Idea. It allows you to post your color schemes online as well as peruse ideas from others. They also have celebrities, like Patricia Field, design a color.

I love colors. In fact, picking my color scheme was quite an ordeal. My plan to do a monochromatic color scheme is not something you see that often. A great tool is myPANTONE! I was lucky enough to be able to use a specific Pantone color for my wedding invitations and ceremony programs. We used 7-o4-U, a deep scarlet color.

DIY: Cake Containers

Since we ordered enough cake for every person to have two slices, we knew that we would have leftovers.  Therefore, we ordered cake boxes.   We searched high and low for some Indianapolis Colts stickers but couldn't find any.

Instead, Denton took the image from online and copied it into a template for a blank, round white sticker.  He printed them off on a color printer.  One night over Law & Order, we stuck the stickers onto the boxes.  It was a really easy project but the results came out great!

There was cake and favors for guests to pick up on the way out!

Retro Invitations

Posh Betty is a great website for reasonably priced invitations with a retro flair.  I found a Parisian style that would look great for a wedding shower.

Tiny Details

Although I was able to avoid making "useless" wedding purchases, one thing that I had to have was a few copies of the Art of Kissing book.  Written in the 50's, the book instructs on different types of kisses as well as talking about the passion of "latin lovers".  It's hilarious.

We had a book two of the tables during the cocktail hour.

One copy never made it home.  Hmm, I wonder who took it...

Wedding Myths

Myth #1:  Bridesmaid dresses can never be worn again.  They are awful.

Truth: Fabulous dresses like this Jenny Yoo dress can be worn again and again!  As I had mentioned a few months ago, I won a gift certificate to Jenny Yoo.  I ended up wearing this dress to a holiday party.  I received several compliments on it!

Myth #2:  No one is going to see your bridal shoes.  There is no reason to spend a lot.

Truth: Um hello, we are talking about shoes!   Of course you are going to see them. Photographers take loads of photos of bridal accessories.  I recommend getting a shoe in metallic color.  I chose to wear a deep champagne shoe that complimented my light champagne dress. My gorgeous de la Renta's will be worn again next weekend!

Bubbles Anyone?

As I mentioned last month, I added champagne at the last minute to our wedding. I always love a good glass of champagne. A few days before New Year's Eve, InStyle posted a Hot Finds of Tasty Bubbly Under $50. These are my three top picks from their list.

Perrier-Jouet is delish. It has to be fabulous if Victoria Beckham enjoys it!

For the bride that adores crystals, serve this at your Head Table!

For the bride that is obsessed with pink!

Bride Wars

I can't help it.  If there is a movie about brides or weddings, I am always interested.   My latest Must See is Bride Wars.

As far as I can tell, the movie looks completely unrealistic and a total chick flick.  My husband, who knows my weakness for such films, turned to me after we saw the preview, "Please, please do not make me go to see this movie with you."

Bouquet Toss?  Totally improprable but I am still going to go see it.

Want to see it?  Find a theatre near you.

Happy Holidays, Happy Cards

Happy New Year!

For our annual holiday card, I wanted to include a photo from our wedding day.  However, I didn't want a flat card like either.  I found the perfect card from Papyrus.  It is a folder card that included double stick tape to have the photo framed on the outside.

The card came in the colors we used at the wedding- Perfect!

Papyrus sold us custom stamps to match the seal.

Real Wedding: Shannon + Rick: The Details

Yesterday, I posted about Shannon and Rick's wedding.  Today, it is all about the details!

All photos are by Monika Lozinska Lee from REM Photography.

The couple opted to have use traditional escort cards.  The benefit to having seperate envelope and card is that it is very easy to move "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" to Table 9 by just switching the envelope.
The cocktail hour was held on the patio at the MCA.  Waiters passed glasses of water and wine with their customized napkins by For Your Party.

Shannon's Clever DIY Project
She had her monogram printed on the corner of pretty velumn paper.  Then, she curled the paper up and filled it with petals.

Shannon and Rick had one table serve many purposes:
gifts and the card box, the guest book, and photos of family as well as the couple.
The couple made their own menus,
which highlighted their gorgeous brown and pink color palette.
The room at the MCA.
A clever ring shot.
After dinner, the bar re-opened for the rest of the night.  There were more napkins from For Your Party announcing the after party at the Sofitel.
Shannon's fabulous pink and brown candy buffet.  It was a huge hit!

Real Wedding: Shannon and Rick

Shannon and Rick were married in September 2008 at St. Luke Luthern Church with a reception at the Museum of Contemporary Art.  When I first met Shannon, she said that she was confident that her vendors would do a great job.  She just wanted to make sure that all the little things were taken care of.  Well, there was no need to worry.  The day was virtually flawless.

All photos are by Monika Lozinska Lee from REM Photography.

The church has gorgeous stained glass windows in the front of the alter.

Upon their exit from the church, the couple was showered in rose petals.  It was a gorgeous DIY project that looked fabulous!

The couple took photos around the city prior to the cocktail hour downtown.

The bridal party went around in a trolley to take photos in the city.

During the 1st dance, guests gathered around the couple in a semi- circle.

Stitely Orchestra kept the dance floor packed all night long!

Check back tomorrow for a post about their fabulous wedding details.
