Wedding Websites

Slate just wrote a snarky article on wedding websites. While they are easy to hate (baby pictures, over the top romance stories, pictures documenting the couple's entire relationship), they are practical. If you have a wedding website, it is a great place to list all of those important details like the ceremony and reception location, start time, parking, and hotel blocks. I don't know how many times I was asked the same question over and over again.

Do you think the cheese factor ruins the value of wedding websites?

That said, I don't value Slate's opinion on weddings too much. This is the same website that said it was ok to print registry information on the invitation.

Alma + David: The Details

Yesterday, I posted about Alma and David's wedding. Here are some of the unique details.

All photos by One Love Photo.

Alma's dress looks like it glows in front of the silver wallpaper.

The bride carried a traditional bouquet of dark pink roses.

Each child had their own personalized mini-suitcases, filled with goodies such as coloring books, candy and puzzles. Kids always feel special when they receive gifts like these.

The ballroom is a gorgeous space with french doors that open to views of Grant Park and Lake Michigan. The vivid carpet showcases a chrysanthemum, the official flower of Chicago.

Guests had a blast taking photos in the photo booth, and helped to create a memorable guest book for the couple. Alma and David provided personalized sleeves so guests could take copies home.

Some more playful touches: guests wore pins that explained how they knew the bride or groom. Alma and David also dressed as a pilot and flight attendant for this photo!

The simple white cake displayed a plane resting atop billowy clouds.
Alma and David were thrilled when they first saw the cake!

Sweet Home Chicago!

Instead of table numbers, each table was labeled with the number of a plane and the corresponding model plane.

"Cake is good for you!" I certainly agree!

Guests and the bridal party joined in on the game show fun. It was a big hit.

Desserts included mini cupcakes and fruit tarts. The couple also offered sliders and french fries as a late night snack.

Thanks for letting me be part of such a fun wedding!

Alma + David

Alma and David were not looking for a traditional wedding; instead, they wanted to create a fun party atmosphere for their guests. As employees of Boeing, they chose to have their wedding the weekend of the Chicago Air & Water Show. All of these thoughtful touches added up to an event that was uniquely "them".

Cake: Take the Cake
Ceremony + Reception: Blackstone Hotel
Florist: Goldie's Flower Shop
Hair + Makeup: Morgan Blaul
Music, Game Show and Video: Sounds Abound
Photo Booth: Shutterbox Photobooth
Photographer: One Love Photo
Wii: Chicago Sports Games

All photos by One Love Photo.

Alma was probably one of the calmest brides I have ever worked with.

Crossing Michigan Avenue for some photos.

The girls took pictures right across the street at Grant Park.
Each wore a black cocktail dress of their own choosing.

Alma was smiling all day!

The guys strike a pose in the famous Barbershop. The Blackstone is full of history!

Theirs was the first ceremony to take place in the Art Hall.

Alma and David wrote their own vows. While touching, they also had a sense of humor. David pledged to support "your crazy marathon training schedule, your unhealthy addiction to TiVo, and your insistence on taking bites from anything I try to eat."

Cutting their cake airplane themed cake. Look for a shot of the topper tomorrow.

The bride and groom snuck out during the reception for a few city photos.

I generally try and stay out of photos as much as possible, but this picture makes me laugh as it is really a snapshot of working as a coordinator. I am carrying my emergency kit on my shoulder and my small bag which holds necessities like my cell phone and tip envelopes, while trying to navigate through the room to get the big cake knife away from the little kiddies - all with a smile on my face!

When Alma and David said they wanted their guests to have fun, they meant it. They hired a company to bring in four flat screen televisions and Wiis. Alma's niece is playing Guitar Hero - the guitar is almost bigger than she is!

The reception also included trivia about the bride and groom in a game show format.

Tomorrow I'll showcase some of their fun details!

Répondez, s'il vous plaît

What does RSVP mean? Well, the title of my posts is the actual French translation. But the request means so much more. It means that the hostess is requesting a response for an event that she is planning.

Many times, the first time a person hosts an event requesting a RSVP is for a wedding or a wedding related event. It is extremely frustrating when guests don't RSVP. I've had some RSVP slackers (as I like to call the guests that don't bother responding) for past events (showers, weddings, etc.). I'm always baffled by their behavior.

How did this come back to my attention? I felt prompted to actually post about this problem after reading this great New York Times Op-Ed.

Last year, I hosted a surprise party for my husband's birthday. Since I was paying for a number of items transportation, dessert, etc., I needed a head count. I was shocked that people opted not to respond to my request or those that cancelled on that day. And don't think you can blame it on just the gentleman. I'm hosting a First Day of Spring Brunch this weekend and have yet to hear from two invited guests.

Be a gracious guest and please RSVP!

Oscar inspiration

The Oscars are my favorites. I love watching everyone get dressed up. For brides, it is a great place to get hair and make-up inspiration.

Stacey Dash's hair is down but back and with volume. How do you not love that? It would work for many brides!

Patricia Clarkson rocked a very similar look to Sandra Bullock. I picked Patricia to show that this looks great on pale girls! The strong red lip is fabulous. I love the straight but gobs of body hair too!

Peaches N Cream is Kate Bosworth's plan. It worked. She looks gorgeous. I think the make-up would look fab on a wedding day...but the hair? Skip it. Looks to casual for my taste.

I just adore the romantic look...

Bridal Event: Audey Trunk Show

A few months ago, I did a blog post about a Lill Event where Audey was going to have a trunk show. If I hadn't had a prior commitment, I would have fought the Armitage Street traffic to see those gorgeous frocks. Lucky for Chicago Brides, they are having another event. Unlucky for me, because it is the day that I'm hosting my first day of Spring Brunch.

Audey Fall 2010 Collection
Sunday, March 21st
900 N Michigan Avenue

Reservations are required. RSVP at

Lauren + Tom, the reception

Yesterday, I blogged about Lauren and Tom's morning and ceremony. Now, we are on to the reception which was held at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Chicago!

All photos by Bella Pictures.

After the ceremony, guests headed outside for the cocktail hour. The views were magnificent. The couple recreated a view of the skyline with this ice sculpture.

Guess where the bridesmaids were sitting? Below is a photo of their vibrant bouquets along with the small table arrangements for the cabaret tables.

When guests headed back to the second floor, they stopped to pick up their escort card. The cards had a picture of the Eiffel Tower as a nod to the couple's honeymoon destination.

The head table was gorgeous. The couple opted for an ultra modern clear table with Ghost chairs. I adore Ghost chairs! I love the look! It may be my favorite Head Table to date!

The cake was made by the Hotel Baker. The cake topper featured the couple, and their adorable dog, Red. Lauren and I are friends on Facebook and I hear about this dog (and his crazy antics) all the time! I thought this was a cute way to include their non-attending pet.

The couple had a gobo with their monogram. The monogram was used throughout the reception.

The menus were so cute! I love that the couple included a nice note to all their guests.

Examples of the visually stunning place settings.

This is such a great picture of the head table, but the couple look awfully cute together!

Lauren and her Dad are super close. He was one of the most involved Father of the Groom's that I have worked with to date. He knew every detail of the wedding!

After dinner, there was a dessert buffet. Actually, the term dessert buffet doesn't do it justice. There was more desserts that I have EVER SEEN at a wedding. It was delicious!

And if that wasn't enough, the couple also had a gelato bar.
The bar was made of ice and lit underneath.

Since there was more than enough dessert, the couple had to go containers with a slice of cake. The lid had a sticker with their monogram.

Congratulations Lauren and Tom! I hope that the both of you are enjoying your first year as Newlyweds!

I don't think Lauren ever stopped smiling all day. Literally.

I love this picture! It seems such a husband and wife thing to do. The couple, right after, their First Look.

Lauren + Tom, photos in the city.

Guests were greeted to a massive array of flowers when they arrived on the second floor.

The ceremony was gorgeous. The aisles were lined with floating petals and flowers.

The guests are seated before the processional.

The kiss!

Tomorrow, I'll have a second post of the couple's reception.
