Jen + Brendan's A New Leaf Wedding

All photos by Olivia Leigh.

Jen had a great time getting ready with her family.

Jen and Brendan's first look. I love the look on Brendan's face!

The couple did a gorgeous shoot around the city.

I love the elegance of the couple against the backdrop of this gritty wall.

The couple's first dance - you can see how gorgeous Jen's dress is as Brendan spins her.

Everyone had a great time getting out on the dance floor!

Tomorrow, we will focus on the details!

Happy Ever After...

I wrote a post earlier this month based on a Chicago Tribune article. Well, the paper had a followed up article in Sunday's edition. The banquet hall will be giving a refund to the couple.

Registry for Foodies

I love non-traditional registries - some brides just don't need a new blender! Foodie Registry is a new registry site for Chicago foodie couples or for those who just enjoy a nice night out. If this free site had been around when I got married, I would have definitely registered for a gift certificate for dinner at Spiaggia and brunch at Perennial. I also love the idea of being able to give the gift of a lovely (and delicious) date night to newlywed friends.

Would you consider using Foodie Registry? What fabulous Chicago eateries would you register for?

Merritt + Steve: The Details

Yesterday I posted from photos from Merritt and Steve's ceremony and reception. Now for the details!

All photos by Brian Kinyon.

I loved how light Merritt's dress looked.

Bouquets were white with green accents.

I know I've said this before, but I adore a colored shoe!

Merritt wore a beautiful, elaborate headband.

The programs explained the components of the ceremony to guests.

The beautiful ketubah.

These seats are reserved for the Bride and Groom!

Mixed shades of green brightened up the escort cards.

Instead of a cake, they served yummy cupcakes in a variety of flavors.

The tables were named after famous Chicago places.

Merritt & Steve

I met with Merritt and Steve about five months before their wedding. They were a very organized yet low key couple and just wanted someone to run the show the day of the wedding. That's what I'm here for!

Band Maxwell
Street Klezmer Band
Cupcakes
Phoebe's Cupcakes
Caterer Hearty Boys
Ceremony and Reception
Temple Sholom
Florist Blumgarten
Makeup
Jill Gosser
Photographer Brian Kinyon
Photobooth Chicagoland Photobooth

Toasting the beautiful bride.

Merritt and Steve opted to meet for the first time in their home.

The whole bridal party took some photos around their neighborhood.

They also visited one of their favorite local hangouts.

Isn't this such a cool photo?

Off to the ceremony!

Merritt gave the ladies some great practical gifts
that matched the overall color scheme of the wedding.

Signing the ketubah with family.

The bride and groom were beaming throughout the ceremony.

Merritt's Dad gave a heartfelt toast to the newlyweds.

I love to see couples enjoy the party!

Tomorrow, we'll look at some of the details.

Everyone adores a red sole...

Everyone adores a red sole of Christian Louboutin. And since I am obsessed with bows, I love the modern take on this slingback. Here is a fabulous shoe, which would be great for the bride that wants to wear something blue.

Poor Customer Service

Did you see Sunday's article in the Chicago Tribune about the couple who wrote in to "What's Your Problem?" Linda and Roman Salazar held their wedding at Metropolis Ballroom of Arlington Heights. Their 5 tier cake fell to the ground when the cake was being moved. While upsetting, the couple didn't get mad until they saw that the banquet hall decided to serve the cake against the couple wishes.

I totally agree with the bride. The cake falling to the ground was an accident. Serving the cake against the bride's wishes was wrong. She is the customer. What do you think? More importantly, do you know of anyone getting married here?

Since newspaper links expire, I saved the article as a Google document for you to read below.

Reading List

Once I found out that a baby was on the way, I found myself spending less time on wedding websites and more time on baby sites. Here are a list of a few of my favorites:
  • Babble - cute site with information from pregnancy to being a parent. Marketed as "for a new generation of parents", I thought the website was fun.
  • Baby Gizmo - comprehensive website with lots of reviews on products. And let me tell you, as a parent-to-be, reviews on products is going to become very important! They also have pretty cool contests.
  • Celebrity Baby Scoop - totally fun website filled with the latest celeb/ baby news. Snark-free, it makes perusing a totally guilt-less pleasure.
  • Fit Pregnancy - I subscribed to the magazine almost immediately. I didn't go to the website unless I was following up on an article or using their Tools section. I did sign up for their weekly newsletter, which had links back to the website.
  • Hot Moms Club - Tied to Pregnancy magazine, I went here a few times. They seem to have information on trendy items... but the title does require an eyeroll.
  • Momfinds - I love the way this site is organized. It's great for product review information. I know this sounds crazy, but you will need to learn a whole new language once you have a baby! I've been a fan of Shefinds for a long time!
  • My First Baby - The site is filled with videos... and I don't watch a lot of videos. However, I think it could be pretty useful and I did get a free T-shirt.
  • Pregnancy & Newborn - Related to Pregnancy's magazine, I only really went on here to register for their contests.
  • Stroller Traffic - One of my favorite websites! Aimed at urban Moms, the website had a really informative baby list.
  • Vital Juice - It's a great website with lots of wellness information.

I did visit but never understood the hype of go to Baby Center. The message boards on the Bump scared me. And WebMD was a bit too medical but good if you had a Q and didn't want to bother your doctor.
